Mike Leach, the legendary college football coach who has spent the previous three seasons on the Mississippi State sidelines, has been hospitalized… He is now said to be struggling for his life. In a statement issued Sunday afternoon, MSU officials stated that Leach had a “personal health emergency at his home” that prompted him to be rushed to a hospital in Jackson, Miss.

The school supplied no additional information about his situation… Despite the fact that Ross Dellenger of Sports Illustrated claimed Sunday night that the 61-year-old is in “serious” condition. Robbie Faulk, a Bulldogs reporter, noted that Leach “needs a miracle.”

The news shook the college football world, with many of the sport’s biggest personalities sending their condolences to the man credited with inventing the “Air Raid” style.

USC coach Lincoln Riley said on Twitter, “Please keep my good buddy Mike Leach in your thoughts and prayers. Please keep Coach and his family in your thoughts and prayers.” Dana Holgorsen, head coach at the University of Houston, commented, “While I am heartbroken by the news, I know Mike is a fighter with a tremendous spirit, and I know he will fight on. Sharon and their extended family are in our thoughts and prayers.”

MSU said preparations for its bowl game against Illinois on Jan. 2 will continue, with defensive coordinator Zach Arnett taking over as head coach from Leach. “Mike’s family is with him and appreciates the overwhelming expressions of love and support for the coach,” the school said, “but also requests that their family’s privacy be respected at this time.”
