After only one day of the announcement, Elon Musk has decided to delay his plan to charge Twitter users a $7.99 monthly subscription fee. The reason for the delay is the upcoming midterm elections.

According to a New York Times report citing an internal Twitter document, Musk had temporarily suspended his policy due to worries that his verification service would propagate false information across his social media network and potentially sway midterm election results.

Employees of Twitter had raised a fuss over it, claiming that anyone might pay the blue check subscription price and set up accounts impersonating President Joe Biden, members of Congress, or journalistic organizations. Then, on the verified accounts, scammers can post bogus information about the voting results, sowing suspicion among voters ahead of Tuesday’s election.

Musk announced his “Twitter Blue” monthly charge to verified users over the weekend and used a celebrity sales presentation to try to win over additional users. All subscribers, he claimed, will receive a blue checkmark, “exactly like the celebs.” He also suggested strategies for reducing advertisements and enabling the posting of lengthy films on the social media platform.

One Twitter employee asked why the firm was “making such a hazardous change before elections, which has the potential to cause electoral interference” while utilizing the company’s internal Slack channel to connect with coworkers.

Under pressure, Twitter management blinked and changed the release date of the monthly fee to November 9, the day after the election. Late in October, Musk bought Twitter for a staggering $44 billion. As a result of allegedly losing $4 million each day since then, he has fired thousands more people in addition to a number of key Twitter executives.

What do you think? Was this a good move by Musk to wait until after the elections of do you think it would have mattered at all? Let us know in the comments below.
