Upon returning to Earth, William Shatner referred to Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin space flight as a profound experience; however, he is now saying that it was actually a major letdown.
Variety obtained an excerpt from the upcoming book by the original “Star Trek” actor, “Boldly Go: Reflections on a Life of Awe and Wonder,” which describes how William Shatner actually felt as he was rocketing into the great beyond above our stratosphere. Shatner claims, “it was among the strongest feelings of grief I have ever encountered. The contrast between the vicious coldness of space and the warm nurturing of Earth below filled me with overwhelming sadness.”

Space Wasn’t That Big Of A Deal According To William Shatner: “Filled Me With Overwhelming Sadness”
The famous quote begins with Will saying that he believed traveling into space would be extremely cathartic and enlightening due to Hollywood portrayals. Captain Kirk, however, felt the complete opposite, saying “I discovered that the beauty isn’t out there, it’s down here, with all of us. Leaving that behind made my connection to our tiny planet even more profound.”
William claims that his space flight left him incredibly saddened. He claims, “It was among the strongest feelings of grief I have ever encountered. The contrast between the vicious coldness of space and the warm nurturing of Earth below filled me with overwhelming sadness.”
When they landed, Will was obviously emotional, but as he was trying to explain something to JB, the guy sort of cut him off by popping some champagne. Will certainly gave the impression that it was a good moment later by describing the Blue Origin flight as “profound” and “extraordinary.” However, it now seems that he was only acting happy for the cameras because it turned out that he was actually very depressed!
