British Royal News says that Twitter certainly isn’t wasting its time making its thoughts known about Queen Elizabeth’s death and the state of the monarchy. It only took a little under 24 hours for #OverThrowTheMonarchy to trend on Twitter, and for this reason, too. Here’s what you need to know.
Now that Queen Elizabeth is gone and her son Charles is the new king, apparently a lot of people believe it’s time for the monarchy to go. Some people shared photos of both Queen Elizabeth and her late husband surrounded by lavish gold and captioned it with, “This is a picture of the queen giving a speech about poverty. I’m literally not kidding.”
#OverThrowTheMonarchy Is Trending On Twitter For This Reason
Other people have commented with, “Hilariously patriotic @BorisJohnson wants to #overthrowthemonarchy He may well feel he’s closer in line to the throne,” along with, “Yes and it needs to happen here, #revolutionnow #OverthrowTheMonarchy The land belongs to us, take it back. #ToryScumOut.”
Another fan wrote, “Suck it up for now, but get moving on New Zealand becoming a republic. #overthrowthemonarchy,” and “Hereditary privilege and sycophantic toadying to someone due to an accident of birth is a disgusting. #OverthrowTheMonarchy #bbcdp.”
Of course, Buckingham Palace has not made any comments about the matter and it’s highly unlikely that they will. As many fans know by now, Charles immediately became King upon the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. This came after Buckingham Palace shared an update that said, “Following further evaluation this morning, the Queen’s doctors are concerned for Her Majesty’s health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision. The Queen remains comfortable at Balmoral.”
Queen Elizabeth died at Balmoral Castle in Scotland after doctors said they had become concerned about her health on Thursday. In a statement, Buckingham Palace said: “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and the Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”
