90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After cast member, Kim Menzies has had a lot of issues in her relationships. She has mentioned that many of her previous relationships have been toxic and her son, Jamal Menzies agreed with her as well. Now it looks like a source that is close to her told her story to In Touch magazine about how she was married to a murderer.
90 Day FiancĂ©: Happily Ever After – Kim’s Marriage Story
Kevin Golphin was the man that Kim was married to and she met him while he was in prison. She saw his story on TV and knew that there was something about him. She decided that she would go to the prison, where he was doing time, to meet him and get to know him better.
90 Day FiancĂ©: Happily Ever After – Kim Menzies Was Married to A Murderer
When she met him, she just felt as if there was more to his story than meets the eye. A source close to Kim said, “Kim saw his story on TV and went to jail one weekend to visit him. Kim believes in not judging others and that’s why she did what she did.”
Golphin and his brother were arrested for killing two police officers in Fayetteville, North Carolina in 1997, and they were given the death penalty.
They were teenagers when the killings happened, but they were still each charged with two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon, one count of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, one count of discharging a firearm into occupied property, and one count of possession of a stolen vehicle.
There was quite a lot of public outrage around this case and their trial was rushed and took place just five months after they committed the murders. The source explained, “He was sent to death row, and she began writing and visiting him more frequently.
She felt like there was more to the case. She does not condone what they did or say it was right. They believe she was not in love with him but loved him as a person. He needed someone to be his power of attorney, and that was it. The whole thing lasted about two years before it was annulled.”
Kim and Kevin were never able to consummate their marriage since he was behind bars for the two years that they were together. It looks as if she really did want to love someone who she thought deserved it.
Be sure to watch Kim on 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After to see more of Kim and Usman Umar. It airs on TLC on Sunday nights at 8 p.m. EST.
