Will Smith’s ex-wife Sheree Zampino has opened up on her reaction towards the actor’s slap-gate incident at the 2022 Oscars.

Will, for his part, was heavily condemned after he slapped comedian Chris Rock following a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair loss. Subsequently, Will received a 10-year Oscar ban, while Chris’ popularity skyrocketed.
Although Will has subsequently apologised since then, Chris has reportedly failed to reach out towards the actor. And looking back, Sheree could not understand the man that she once knew as her husband behaving in this way.
In an interview with Us Weekly, she said: “It was one of those moments where I froze. The first thing you do is you try to make sense of it in the [moment]. And when it doesn’t make sense in the moment … we didn’t even really have time. I didn’t even deal with it.”
But now that some time has passed, Sheree was adamant that she wanted to see Chris and Will reconcile. This is going to be harder than first thought for the following reasons. First of all, Will hardly did himself any favours when he failed to apologise at the time.
And given that a significant amount of time had passed before Will issued his apology, there was a feeling that this was done to save face, as opposed to it being sincere. Secondly, as already mentioned, Chris has failed to reach out.
And the fact that he hasn’t done so suggests it is not at the top of his priorities to reconcile with a man, who had ultimately embarrassed him in front of the world on one of the comedian’s biggest moments. And yet, Sheree would like to see the pair put behind any bad blood.
Her following comments confirmed as much: “When Chris and Will can come together and heal in a public way and extend forgiveness to one another, do you know how many people that’s gonna help and set free? So, I see the opportunity in it.”
