Jerry’s sentencing was seen as a major milestone, as it demonstrated that powerful people in the Hollywood industry could be held to account. After all, the two brothers had alleged that Jerry solicited nudes and sex from minors. With that being said, there would have been an expectation on Kristen to celebrate the ruling.
And yet, she felt more needed to be done in order to tackle this widespread problem. And one the ways that this could be done is to hold those responsible at the higher levels. In an official statement, Kristen said: “Our family has absolutely no cause for celebration today.
“The entities that control all-star cheerleading were eager to ride on his coattails when his celebrity status was drawing positive attention. Now is time for those same organisations to demonstrate an unequivocal commitment to transparency.”
While Kristen’s comments are justified, this theme of after-the-fact has become a major problem in the entertainment industry. And in reality, the prospects of targeting high-profile people are few and far between. The two major ones in recent memory happened to be the convictions of Harvey Weinstein and R Kelly.
Nevertheless, the fans on social media agreed with Kristen’s sentiments. People were of the view that more needed to be done to prevent people in positions of power from taking advantage. One person wrote: “Whats good for one is good for all.
“All of them should be doing Time, not just Jerry Harris, all of them. Anybody who put[s] the hands on a child.” Ultimately, if more people are convicted, then this will deter others from following in the same vein.
