Disgraced former movie producer, Harvey Weinstein has had two more charges brought against him, this time from the other side of the pond. Weinstein will face two counts of indecent assault in England, that were alleged to have happened 26 years ago.
The Crown Prosecution’s Special Crime Division have finished reviewing the evidence gathered by the Metropolitan Police’s investigation and say they have enough to press the new charges. Investigations into more allegations, spanning several decades, are said to be on-going.
Harvey Weinstein Facing New Charges Following UK Investigation
The unnamed victim in the newest case is now in her 50’s and still residing in the U.K., a country that does not have a statute of limitations for sexual assault or rape.
Weinstein is currently serving a 23-year prison sentence in the US after being convicted of assault and rape. Only last week he was back in court, two years after being tried, convicted and jailed, hoping to have his sentence turned over.
The New York Appeals court, however, upheld the verdict, rejecting the movie mogul’s defense arguments which claimed the proceedings heavily favored the prosecution.
It is not clear at this stage if the UK plans to seek to extradite 70 year old Weinstein who was repatriated to the west coast of the US last year after being found guilty in New York in 2020. Currently Weinstein, last seen leaning heavily on a walker, is locked up in California’s Twin Towers Correctional Center awaiting trial on eleven more charges for assaulting a further five women in Los Angeles and Beverly Hills from 2004 to 2013.
The latest announcement in the fall of Harvey Weinstein came two weeks after the UK police were authorized to charge Oscar winning actor, Kevin Spacey with four counts of sexual assault.
Multiple men have come forward with allegations against the American Beauty star of sexual harassment and unwanted advances. The incidents Spacey has be charged for allegedly took place in London between March 2005 and August 2008, and in western England in April 2013.
