Attorney Lisa Bloom, best known for advising convicted sex-offender Harvey Weinstein, has spoken out in the aftermath of the Amber Heard and Johnny Depp trial.

The recent defamation case resulted in Johnny coming out on top, as Heard was required to pay a judgment close to $10 million. While that may have been the case, Lisa felt that the judgment would ultimately work against women bringing cases against high-profile men.
And by the looks of it, this has already begun to happen according to her own words. In her comments, she said: “I had to advise two women today that if they speak out about their sexual assaults, they can be sued. Even if they don’t name their abuser.
“Even if they don’t identify him by job or relationship. One wept at being silenced. The fallout from (Depp vs. Heard).” Despite those comments, it is important to bear in mind the following factors. First of all, Lisa has represented Weinstein in the past.
Therefore, she has been on the other side of defending someone who was ultimately convicted of sex crimes. As such, her comments could easily be questioned by virtue of the fact that she was not showing the same reasoning when she represented Weinstein.
Secondly, Heard was tried in front of a jury. And just because their conclusion may not necessarily resonate with everyone, it was part of the justice system nonetheless. The fans on social media were not too pleased with Lisa’s comments.
People were of the view that she was trying to make this conversation about gender rather than actually looking at the facts. One person wrote: “That’s not Johnny’s fault, he was the victim here,” while another person stated: “Put the blame were it belongs – on Amber Heard’s shoulders.”
Lisa’s comments did not come across very well, but in any event, taking on a defamation case always poses the risk of coming out with more damage. And that is just the reality that we cannot ignore.
