    Talk about really, really bad timing. There are new reports that say Russian customs official say that U.S. basketball star Brittney Griner was arrested in Russia after a vape cartridge containing hashish oil was found in her luggage. Here’s what you need to know.

    The Russian Federal Customs Service released a statement Saturday confirming that an American “two-time Olympic basketball champion” had been taken into custody in February after a narcotics’ dog at Sheremetyevo International Airport near Moscow alerted the athlete’s luggage.

    The customs service released video of an individual who appears to be the 6-foot-9 Griner going through airport security.

    “We are aware of the situation with Brittney Griner in Russia and are in close contact with her, her legal representation in Russia, her family, her teams, and the WNBA and NBA,” Lindsay Kagawa Colas, Griner’s agent with Wasserman Group, told ESPN via a statement Saturday. “As this is an ongoing legal matter, we are not able to comment further on the specifics of her case but can confirm that as we work to get her home, her mental and physical health remain our primary concern.”

    USA Basketball, the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA), the Mercury and the WNBA players’ union publicly shared their concerns for Griner.

    USA Basketball, the governing body for sport in the United States, said in a statement it is “aware of and closely monitoring the legal situation facing Brittney Griner in Russia. Brittney has always handled herself with the utmost professionalism during her long tenure with USA Basketball and her safety and wellbeing are our primary concerns.”
