A TikTok video went viral after an Asian woman was left dissatisfied by the manner in which a worker had dealt with her racist experience during an interaction with another customer.
TikTok Video Shows Worker Telling Off An Asian Woman Who Had Been Subjected To ‘Racist Remarks’
According to reports, the Asian woman in question Xuna Hu happened to be doing her own shopping at a store called ‘Lowes’ in Illinois. During the course of that process, it is claimed that another white customer told her the following: “Go back to your country.”
In the video here, we can see that Xuna has been left totally outraged at what she has just heard and demands that the customer give her an apology.
But rather than seeing the store managers intervene, one of the workers by the name of David decided to tell Xuna to put down her phone and stop recording.
In the video, David is heard saying the following: “I’m asking you politely to delete the video you are currently taking. There is nothing that you need the video for.
“There is no crime being committed,” to which Xuna replied: “I have full right to protect myself, take the video just in case she does something bad to me. It’s nothing to you, because you’re white.”
The video instantly went viral with over 1.5 million views and counting. And with that, people had a lot to say on this matter. A significant majority of people got behind Xuana and felt that David was completely out of order.
After all, the only thing that Xuana wanted to get was an apology. One person wrote: “David was gaslighting Xuna. David doesn’t get to decide how big of a situation this is. HE wasn’t the subject of the racist remarks.”
The consequence of this is that Xuana started a petition demanding that something be done about this, which has resulted in over 16,000 signatures. And it gained so much notoriety that even Republican Theresa Mah of Illinois decided to sign it.
Time will tell whether there will be any repercussions for this going forward, but in the meantime, it is clear that something needs to be done in order to prevent incidents like this from happening again.
