A TikTok video went viral after a black woman claimed that she was subjected to racial profiling during the course of purchasing some products that belonged to the store’s Black History Month section.
TikTok Video Goes Viral After Women Claims She Was Racially Profiled At The Store’s Black History Month Section
Reports indicate that the incident had occurred in Target, as the woman (Pamela Smith) was shopping in the city of Kalispell, Montana.
In the video here, we can see that the woman is not happy with how the customer service is going down in the store. That is when Pamela decided to call out the names of the manager and the security in order to express her dissatisfaction.
The video was then captioned by the following comments: “When you are racially profiled while buying the Black History Collection at Target in Kalispell, Montana. Stop buying from Target. Find Black business owners.”
Although it could be argued that store owners are ultimately in control over what they do, the very fact of the matter is that Pamela felt she was being treated like a criminal when she had done nothing wrong.
That is why an investigation is being held in order to determine whether or not there is going to be somebody held accountable for this.
In an official statement, a representative of the store remarked: “We’re also looking into these serious allegations with the team member in question.”
The video instantly went viral with over 65,000 views and counting. Naturally, a lot of people had something to say on the matter especially since Black History Month has become a divisive topic.
A certain subset of people believe that the month actually goes on to increase division by virtue of the fact that this type of positive discrimination leads to more separation, as opposed to encouraging a policy of dialogue.
Meanwhile, others stress that Black History Month is integral since the vast majority of school curriculums do not recognise or teach the array of black history available.
One person in response wrote: “This breaks my heart. You were prob so happy & excited for some nice things then your night was ruined.” So there you have it folks.
