Nils Lofgren, who is best known for being a guitarist for Bruce Springsteen, is the latest musician to remove his music from Spotify in response to claims that the platform had been perpetuating Covid-19 misinformation by Joe Rogan.

Nils Lofgren Is The Latest Musician To Remove His Music From Spotify-‘Cut Ties With Spotify.’

Nils follows in the footsteps of Neil Young and Joni Mitchell who had both decided to act in a similar manner. The result of all this is that Spotify will have to consider their position very carefully, given that there is a danger other artists could follow.

In an official statement, Nils said: “Neil and I go back 53 years. [Wife] Amy [Aiello] and I are honored and blessed to call Neil and Daryl friends, and knew standing with them was the right choice.

“We encourage all musicians, artists and music lovers everywhere, to stand with us all, and cut ties with Spotify.”

These comments are very profound, as there is a possibility that fellow high-profile entertainers could end up cancelling others in the same position.

Irrespective of whether or not you agree with what Joe has had to say, the very fact of the matter is that he is being targeted for his views by those so-called entertainers who are supposed to be championing the right to freedom of speech and expression.

And this potential contradiction in terms was played out on social media. A certain subset of people felt that political correctness was going too far to the point where people were being told how they should think.

And this went against the notion that people should be allowed to consider evidence for themselves before making a decision. One person wrote: “Public safety? It’s funny how y’all think his speech can somehow harm people.

“If people can’t search for the right information for themselves and make decisions then they’re idiots. Attacking spotify because of someone’s comment which they can choose not to listen to is childish.”

If more mainstream artists decide to jump on the bandwagon and do the same, then Spotify will have no alternative but to address Joe Rogan’s podcast. We will have to see how this will all play out going forward.
