Musician Morgan Wallen has reportedly donated half a million dollars to various different black organisations.Â
Musician Morgan Wallen Donates $500,000 To Black Organisations Following His N-Word Scandal
This comes on the back end of huge criticism that the musician had received after a video circulated of him online using the n-word while in the presence of some friends.
The negative media scrutiny had gotten so bad that he was not allowed to attend the Academy of Country Music Awards, despite actually having been nominated for an award.
Not only that, but he was also apparently dropped by his record label, as well as being banned from having his music played on iHeartRadio.
In an attempt to put this all behind him, Morgan is looking to give back to the community as a way to demonstrate the remorse that he has had.
Reports indicate that Morgan has donated $100,000 to the National Museum of African American Music. In addition, this was followed up by a $300,000 donation to the Black Music Action Coalition and a $100,000 donation to Rock Against Racism.
These actions would indicate that Morgan is trying to right his wrongs. And it is also important to remember that during the course of the video, the singer was intoxicated.
Although that does not justify his actions, it does provide some much-needed context when it comes to making a judgment on him. This is especially true when we examine his statements in the aftermath of the incident.
In a prior interview, Morgan remarked: “I was around some of my friends and we just, we say dumb stuff together. In our minds it’s playful.
“It sounds ignorant but that’s really where it came from, and it’s wrong. We were all clearly drunk.” It will still take some time before Morgan is accepted back into the public, just as he was before.
But actions like this are only going to endear him towards his critics, as it demonstrates that he has learnt and done his time. That is the only sensible thing that he can do in light of everything that has happened of late. So there you have it folks.Â
