‘Days of Our Lives’: Carson Boatman learned of Johnny DiMera’s Upcoming Possession in an Interesting Way

‘Days of Our Lives’ (DOOL) spoilers find that isn’t shy when it comes to adding interesting storylines that many soaps wouldn’t touch.

Case and point: MarDevil.

When it was first announced the Devil would be heading back to Salem, audiences figured they knew what to expect. After all, Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall) had been possessed some quarter of a century ago.

However, a curve ball was thrown viewers’ way when Doug Williams (Bill Hayes) was the first to have ole Beelzebub take up residence in his body, and we’ve seen Susan Banks (Stacy Haiduk) been infected with the Big Guy Downstairs, too.

‘Days of Our Lives’: Carson Boatman learned of Johnny DiMera’s Upcoming Possession in an Interesting Way

Now it’s Johnny DiMera’s turn to go full evil (as opposed to just DiMera evil), but portrayer Carson Boatman didn’t learn of his character’s possession the good old-fashioned way- by reading the script or having a meeting with showrunners.

Carson learned his characters fate from a Days make-up artist, Marissa, who innocently inquired if Carson wore contact lenses. When he told her he didn’t, Marissa informed Carson he’d need to get fitted for some and an appointment had already been made for him.

Carson clued in pretty quickly, asking, “Marisa, am I going to be the Devil?” His suspicions were confirmed, but the make-up artist could give no more details. A week and a half later, we had JoDevil; smashing hearts and chandeliers.

So, was Carson down with (being) the Devil?

Absolutely.

“Having Johnny play possessed, it’s like I can do as an actor pretty much whatever I want. I can treat people however I want, and I can be the bad guy and get to show that side of my own craft without the character of Johnny having to take any credit or blame for the bad deeds,” Carson explained. “So it’s kind of the best of both worlds; I kind of get to have my cake and eat it too.”

Another part of the possession storyline Carson enjoys is how it has driven Allie Horton (Lindsay Arnold) and Chanel Dupree (Raven Bowens) back together.

“Anything can happen in Salem, really, truly anything,” Carson reminded fans. “I think continuing to push the envelope with this love triangle, as well as sexual fluidity, I think it’s very bold. I don’t think I’ve ever seen this on a [daytime] show before.”

So yes, Days is certainly not shy about adding storylines others wouldn’t touch, varying from the ridiculous (yeah, we are looking at you Susan the Seer Cat) to the important – you’re doing a great job Lindsay and Ravens.

Yes, you too Carson.
