In between doing his YouTube videos, he also does live comedy shows and has been a guest on various podcasts. He also sells what he calls Freedom Merch and has his own newsletter to help connect fans.
In his latest video, he has decided to go after the Metaverse. Let’s break it down and what he is doing to combat big tech’s role in social media discussion.

So, what is the Metaverse? It’s a world that the former Facebook (now Meta) wants to be known for, even with Microsoft coming up with something similar. This article breaks down a lot of what one can expect in The Metaverse as well as pros and cons of this virtual world. We have to say, from what we’ve seen, we’re not exactly huge fans of the idea, which to us feels like distancing people from real physical connection and tangible reality. But we digress.
Whatever happens with the Metaverse, this seems to be a bit in the future yet. The article we referenced said The Metaverse will take about ten years to be fully realized. Supposedly, this will allow people to be in virtual rooms with others they can see in 3D, rather than the 2D of a computer screen. And Mark Zuckerberg is so committed to being the name associated with Metaverse, he branded the company Meta. We’ll see what comes of this in the future.

One of our favorite moments of the video is where he says he’d much rather live a fake life with fake meaning than a real existence. He also invites users to envision a world where you don’t have to use your imagination. Plus, one can have their mind controlled by a company who gets called in to testify over their questionable business practices.
We love how he spliced footage of Zuckerberg’s video about The Metaverse with his own commentary and satire. He also makes satirical commentary on the addictive nature of technology and the new level this could lead to. We love it, and you should definitely check the video out to get a laugh. Plus, have something to think about at the same time.
What Awaken with JP fans are saying
As usually, Awaken with JP gets people talking. One fan commented, “1990s: Don’t sit to close to the television, it’ll rot your brain out!” 2020s: “We’ve moved the television to be 3 inches from your eyes, so now you can’t get distracted!” We can’t agree more. It’s definitely a slippery slope.
“Never would’ve imagined when The Matrix first came out that it would end up being a documentary,” added another.
In the video, JP spoke about a new platform he is involved and that also found its way into the conversation. Said one user, “I think a lot of the younger generation don’t even realise the internet wasn’t always like this. It was a much freer unrestricted place in the 90’s and early 2000’s. No one had a monopoly at that point.” We definitely remember those days. The graphics and website layouts left a lot to be desired, but it was fun to see something new take shape and chat with people we couldn’t have years before.
It should be interesting to see what comes of The Metaverse as time goes on. As well as all the social networks now popping up to combat the more restrictive rules on the big platforms. And we’ll be keeping up with JP to see his comedic take of each step of the way.
