Actor Sean Penn has opened up on how he believes that masculinity has diminished in light of men becoming more feminine.
Actor Sean Penn Claims Men Have ‘Become Quite Feminized’
Sean, for his part, was known for dating some very strong women in his life. His highly publicised relationships with Madonna and Charlize Theron were testament of that fact.
And given that he has just recently split up from his wife Leila George, it is entirely understandable that he would have something to say about men’s behaviour.
As for Sean, he felt that men had sacrificed their principles in order to please women which is something that needs to change.
During an interview with The Independent, Sean said: “I think that men have, in my view, become quite feminized. I have these very strong women in my life who do not take masculinity as a sign of oppression toward them.”
One of the ways that Sean believes men may have become feminised is through none other than their clothing.
This can be seen through high-profile celebrities that have now become synonymous with certain types of clothing that have traditionally been associated with women.
Take for example, former One Director star, Harry Styles. Harry has been pictured wearing and performing in skirts which has resulted in praise on the basis that he has helped to break gender norms.
However, Sean is of the view that this has to change. He added: “There are a lot of, I think, cowardly genes that lead to people surrendering their jeans and putting on a skirt.”
The response on social media was mixed. A certain subset of people believed that Sean’s words could have the impact of inciting hatred especially to those that dress a certain way.
Meanwhile, others felt that this was an organic response to the growing attack on masculinity that has emerged in the media of late.
One person wrote: “Don’t know why this statement has so many panties in a bunch. He’s just saying the same thing our father said, his father said, that his father said.”
Regardless of what you think about his comments, it is safe to say that Sean will do what he thinks is best. If you liked reading this article, then check out our other features on the Daily Soap Dish.
