Hollywood actress Halle Berry has spoken about the abusive childhood that she went through at the hands of her father, Jerome Jesse Berry.
Halle Berry Spoke To A Spiritual Healer To Deal With Her Abusive Childhood
It is no secret that Halle had an abusive upbringing, and yet, it only fuelled her desire to succeed even more. So much so that she has now gone on to become one of the most recognised actresses in the world.
But the road to that stardom was paved with many life lessons, which on another day could have traumatised any given person.
Now that her father is no longer alive, given that he passed away in 2003, she wanted to expand on the experiences that made her become the woman that she is today.
During an interview on the ‘NPR Fresh Air’ podcast, Halle spoke about how her father’s alcoholism started the troubles. She said: “There’s lots of abuse in my childhood.
“I grew up with an alcoholic father that was very abusive, both verbally, emotionally, physically.” Therefore, Halle was never able to have a strong connection with her father as alcohol would often get in the way of him recognising her stardom.
Although it is clear that Halle did attempt to rectify things before Jerome’s passing, it was only after his death that she managed to bury some of her demons when she decided to talk to a spiritual healer in some rather unconventional circumstances.
She added: “When he died, I was given a gift of talking to a spiritual healer and someone that took me through some spiritual exercises to sort of heal my wound with my dad.”
And yet, there was always an element of regret given what could have been. Halle revealed that her father was not always the intimidating figure that he would go on to become.
Unfortunately for her, his failure to control his drinking levels ultimately turned him into a monster. Her following comments confirmed as much: “He wasn’t born into the world an abusive, alcoholic man who was out of control.
“He became that by what he was and was not given; what he was exposed to and by what he wasn’t exposed to.” If you liked reading this article, then check out our other features on the Daily Soap Dish.
