In a headline that made 99% of the female population reading this want to cross their legs for eternity, Catherine McBroom reportedly removed her own IUD.
Any woman who is familiar with the IUD insertion process knows that it in itself can be pretty painful and you are required to go to the doctor to have it put in, but then you literally don’t have to think about birth control for a long time, that is if you don’t have any adverse effects to it.

Some women do, some women don’t, everyone’s experience is very individual with all birth control because it effects all bodies differently.
McBroom allegedly removed her own IUD in order to “get healthy” because she had not had her period in 8 months, and said that while she had read that self-removal was difficult she was ready to have it out.. and according to her post on snap chat, her body agreed.
She said that her body “gave it right up” and she “cried of happiness” knowing that her body was “finally going to be happy and healthy”. We could think of a million other reasons to cry while removing your own IUD but we’ll spare the gentle reader that graphic content.
Apparently McBroom went as far as to post pictures of her removed IUD to her snapchat account! They’re no longer there because everything on snapchat expires but can we just say we’re all cringing collectively at the thought?
Experts say that while it can certainly be done, removing one’s own IUD is “not recommended’, in fact, one user commented and asked Catherine had she had any ‘crashes’ since she removed it, meaning symptoms that a woman gets post-removal of a hormonal based birth control, and Catherine responded with, “Yes, It’s so bad right now. Someone help me.”
Catherine isn’t the only one out here who’s doing this, there have been women on tiktok who have been removing their own IUDs due to a lack of health insurance or the funds to go get them removed by a doctor and doctors are saying that this is the wrong type of thing to promote online, especially when you have such a young fanbase.
