‘Welcome to Plathville’ Spoilers reveal that we have been both anticipating and dreading this moment. The moment we knew had to happen someday, when Olivia Plath finally confronted Kim and Barry Plath for what they said to her.
Only recently did Olivia share what her in-laws had told her about herself, they thought that she was filled with evil spirits that needed to be cast out. Of course, that probably means nothing to the random person on the street, or if it does it usually means that the person in who’s making that accusation is believed to be having a mental health crisis.
‘Welcome to Plathville’: Olivia finally talks with the Plaths
But growing up in the extremely religious circles that Olivia and Ethan did, that usually means that you’re a terrible person and that it’s going to take a whole lot to cure you if you can be helped at all.
Olivia said that from day one of being married to Ethan she felt like she was being controlled, and looking at it from the lens of season 1, we can certainly see where she thought that.
If we look at Season 1 Plath family, they were very controlling of their children. Granted, the kids were a lot younger and the older siblings hadn’t moved out yet and had a lot more sway within the household with the younger kids.
But now that the older, more rebellious Plaths have moved out and forged their own paths and the Plath family home is pretty stable once more, the younger, less rebellious kids are having a better time of it it seems. Kim and Barry aren’t as strict with them as they were with Ethan, Hosanna, Micah, and Moriah.
The battle lines were drawn, and Ethan even joked that the Plath parents should be afraid of Olivia if she was as filled with evil spirits as they thought she was. Olivia questioned the reason why she was doing it the entire way there, but ultimately, she got out and did it, and told them straight up that she thought that they meant to hurt and ostracize her, but she forgave them and she was ready to move on.
Barry looked as if he might burst into tears, but Kim was surprisingly not emotional, even though she maintained that they never meant to hurt Olivia – Olivia wasn’t having any of it though and said that she felt differently and denied Kim and Barry a hug before leaving.
They did however, acquiesce and let them see the kids one final time before they left for Tampa. It was a heartwarming scene and the kids got to properly say goodbye to their big brother and sister-in-law.
Although Amber cautioned Olivia not to start crying like she did the last time because it was “so embarassing”, Amber’s at that age where tears are more awkward than heartfelt, so, we won’t judge too much. The only time Kim seemed to get emotional was when she wasn’t allowed to watch the children say goodbye.
Although… it all seemed kind of rushed and like there was a lot of unfinished business there that is probably going to get brought up again… but it looks like we’ll have to wait till season 4 for that. Stay tuned!!!
