Heather Thomson, who is best known for being a member of the ‘Real Housewives of New York‘, has blasted the show for making up false storylines.
‘Real Housewives of New York’: Heather Thomson Accuses The Show Of Being ‘Completely Staged And Fake’
The housewives franchise has always been accused of sensationalising incidents for the sake of entertainment, and yet, Heather’s claims would suggest that entertainment was taking precedence over what was actually happening on the show.
This issue has clearly been on Heather’s mind for some time, given that she had the boldness to call Sonja Morgan’s engagement to Harry Dubin on the show as ‘fake.’
This was because the moment had occurred when fellow housewife Luann de Lesseps was suffering from her own breakup with Jacques Azoulay. During an interview with ‘The New York’ post, Heather blasted the previous storyline.
She said: “It was completely staged and totally fake. It was a ring that Ramona was wearing. And she took it off and gave it to Harry to pretend that it was his … it was oneupmanship.”
Having said that, though, Heather understood that not all of the fault was at the hands of the housewives. But given that the show places so much pressure on the cast to provide some form of entertainment, people end up exaggerating things in order to please the producers.
In this way, they guarantee their future on the show as headlines often do sell and resonate well with the public. She added: “They [housewives] go in there with the right intention, but then you get sucked into this system of what the viewers want.
“These women are part of a machine that has awarded them and fed them for outrageous behaviour. It’s a career. It’s their check.”
Despite her criticism of the show, Heather also took aim at the audience. She felt that if people stopped tuning in, then it would encourage the producers to show a more authentic view of the housewives.
After all, a drop in the ratings would have left them with no choice but to do that. She continued: “You can’t really talk about the people without talking about the system.
“Everybody has culpability in this … the viewers, the network, the women.” If you liked reading this article, then check out our other features on the Daily Soap Dish.
