It looks like some parents really need to pay attention to their children’s media consumption. There’s a new report that says kids are playing their own version of the immensely popular Netflix series “Squid Games” by beating up the “losers” at school. In fact, one innection ‘Red Light, Green light’ game turned violent at a school in Belgium. Here’s what you need to know.

“Squid Games” is about hundreds of cash-strapped contestants accept an invitation to compete in children’s games for a tempting prize, but the stakes are deadly. Each character competing in the games has a problem at home.

In one challenge, the characters are told to run towards a disturbing mannequin after it calls out ‘green light’ and must stop when ‘red light’ is shouted. If caught moving, the player is shot dead.

Yet, some students at the school of Erquelinnes Beguinage Hainaut have taken this series to the next level in their own schoolyard. In Belgium, Red Light, Green Light is known as 1, 2, 3, Piano. The students have been mimicking the show on the playground, and beating up those who lose the games.

The school posted on their Facebook page: “We [must remain] vigilant so that this unhealthy and dangerous game is stopped.”

Apparently, this has become a problem in other schools, too. A father said his children’s school in Ilford, east London, had also warned parents in a letter about kids playing their own version of Squid Games.

He tweeted: “Can’t believe my kids’ school has had to send a letter telling parents that kids are playing their own version of Squid Game and that parents will have sanctions applied if their kids mimic Squid Game. The popularity of this show is next level.” So far Netflix has not made any comments about the matter.
