‘The Bachelor’: Emmanuel Acho Gives His Take On Matt James’ Reconciliation With Rachael Kirkconnell

The duo initially parted ways after Rachael’s prior social media activity came to light, which was deemed to be perpetuating racism. While Matt did make it clear that he could not continue with Rachael any longer, it seems Matt’s views may have been different when things were off-camera.

And so it showed, as Emmanuel gave fans an insight into what went down when the cameras were not there. During an interview on the ‘Off The Vine’ podcast, Emmanuel stated how Matt was second-guessing himself.

He said: “Matt’s hands were tied. His hands were tied. I tried to untie them. I don’t think they ended up running it, but I asked, ‘Would you be in this relationship if not for pressure from the Black community?’ … I tried to let the world know, ‘Hey Matt, blink twice.” There were several reasons why Matt was very worried.

First of all, by getting back with Rachael, it would have contradicted his own words as he stressed how Rachael needed to educate herself on black issues. Not only that, but given the rise of cancel culture, Matt may have been seen to be endorsing Rachael’s views and therefore put an end to his own career.

With so much potentially on the line, Emmanuel was very empathetic towards Matt’s position. He added: “I’m speaking as a Black man. It would have been impossible for him to leave the stage with her without getting crucified, but what people did not see is after the cameras cut [is] they left arm overarm. They walked off the stage.”

And this idea of being torn was shown by Matt’s insistence on being there for Rachael. Although this was not expressed to the whole world, Emmanuel was there to witness it. And looking back, it looks as though the pair knew they had to part for a time before they could get back together.

Emmanuel continued: “As soon as they left, it was his arm over hers. There was still so much affection.” The duo have never looked back, and the future continues to look promising.
