Nicolas Cage has announced that he will no longer be portraying the world’s most famous big cat owner: the flamboyant, lip-synching jailbird and star of Netflix’s most watch docu-series, Tiger King himself- Joe Exotic

The much-touted Amazon adaptation of the goings-on at Exotic’s zoo- the Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park, starring Cage as Exotic has been officially been shelved.

Rumors persisted about why the much-hyped Amazon take has been scrapped until Cage opened up to Variety saying, “We should clear the record, I read two excellent scripts, which I did think were excellent, but I think Amazon ultimately felt that it was material that had become past tense because it took so long for it come together. They felt at one point that it was lightning in a bottle, but that point has since faded into the distance and it’s no longer relevant.”

Just because Amazon has canned the project, it doesn’t mean it’s all over yet. It has been said the project may be shopped around to other outlets. It is unknown if Cage will still be attached.

Meanwhile, streaming platform, Peacock has its own Tiger King project still in the works with Kate McKinnon and John Cameron Mitchell on board to star.

A rumored Netflix sequel has also piqued interest in those who watched in horrified delight as Exotic and his rag-tag cast of characters saw us all through the beginning months of the Corona Virus pandemic.

Jeff Lowe who was seen in the original docu-series claims to have finished filming the sequel, though no premiere date or even confirmation of its existence has been announced by Netflix or any other network/platform.

Meanwhile, the real Joe Exotic, or should we say, Joe Maldonado-Passage has recently had his jail sentence vacated. It’s nothing to get excited about though. He is remaining behind bars as he awaits his new sentence which is likely to be 2-5 years shorter at best, meaning he is still looking at 18+ years in prison.
