David Archuleta has admitted that he has doubts about his own sexuality.
American Idol’s David Archuleta Opens Up On The Difficulties He Has In Reconciling His Sexuality
The star, who is best known for appearing on American Idol, has had a tough time trying to reconcile his identity. He grew up as a devout Christian and has opened up about how his faith has been instrumental in him becoming the man that he is today. And yet, that very faith has led him to have a huge tussle between staying true to his conservative values, or realising that he may be having an identity crisis.
Although he came out as gay in 2014, the problems have not gone away. In a post to his fans on Instagram, he said: “I had similar feelings for both genders, so maybe a spectrum of bisexual. Then I also have learned I don’t have too much sexual desires…I guess because I have a commitment to save myself until marriage, which people call asexual.”
The musician fails to identify himself with a particular label, but this is totally understandable. First of all, his family are very into their faith—and David knows that doing such a thing could alienate his family even further. Not only that, David has chosen to focus on uniting people to accept differences, and this can only be done in a cordial manner.
And in keeping with that, he has called on religious leaders to accept the LGBTQ community. He added: “I just invite you to please consider making room to be more understanding and compassionate to those who are LGBTQIA+, and those who are a part of that community and trying to find that balance with their faith.”
David has made it his mission to ensure that people, who are going through similar struggles, have a voice to vent their frustrations. While society has become more liberalised with such issues, the entertainment industry has prevented people from coming out more freely due to the knock-on consequences it could have on their careers.
Nevertheless, David appreciated all those who heard his plea. He continued: “So let’s keep asking and seeking, and having compassion and patience. Thank you for listening.”
