A new exhibit has opened up at Windsor Castle commemorating the life and legacy of Queen Elizabeth’s husband, Prince Philip. Prince Philip:

A Celebration has been curated by the Royal Collection Trust and features pieces marking key moments during his official duties for the Queen. Read on for everything you need to know.

As many royal fans know, the Queen and Prince Philip were together for 73 years, and he devoted himself to supporting the monarch in her duties as head of state at home and abroad.

He was the British monarchy’s longest serving consort. The Duke of Edinburgh died at the age of 99 and just one month short of his 100th birthday back in April.

Some of the exhibits on display include the prince’s Chair of Estate, which is usually located in the Throne Room at Buckingham Palace, and his personal desk, presented to him as a wedding gift by the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1947.

Another highlight includes a portrait painted by Ralph Heinmans in 2017, the year of Philip’s retirement, which has gone on display for the first time.

The desk he used at Buckingham Palace from 1952 is also on display, along with the robe and coronet worn for the Queen’s Coronation in 1953 and the first sculpture he commissioned.

Sally Goodsir, Curator of Decorative Arts at the Royal Collection Trust, said in a statement: “It was planned to mark his centenary which would have been the 10 June but we have still carried on with this exhibition and it’s now being held as a tribute to his official duties. I’m really proud, I think especially with the way that the funeral was conducted where people couldn’t gather in Windsor as they might ordinarily have done, that people can visit the Castle and really find out a little bit more about him, about the man, about that long period supporting the Queen as consort, and I hope people enjoy it.”

The exhibit will be open to the public until September 20th.
