’90 Day Fiancé’ Spoilers indicate there’s one trend that has been cropping up among the 90 day universe couples and it’s a very troubling and makes us as Americans look extremely entitled and a bit ‘white savior-y’, okay, not a bit, a lot and it’s not a good look. It seems that a lot of the people who come to the United States for their fiancé are genuinely looking for love.
However, our capitalist culture has pervaded people’s sensibilities so that now, everyone, including these American fiancés, seem to think that these people are coming here for ‘a better opportunity’ when it looks like that’s simply not the case with a good majority of these fiancés.
’90 Day Fiancé’ Spoilers: ‘Hired Help’ and the 90 day universe
It was implied that Yara Zoya Dufren had originally came here from the Ukraine for a better opportunity but she quickly shut that rumor down. She wants to open her own salon business in the future but she also said that she had fully expected to be able to travel back and forth to the Ukraine while hubby Jovi Dufren was at work, however that’s not how US immigration works.
She said that back in the Ukraine that she had a life and even up until the wedding she said she wanted to go back to it, things are a little bit different now that she has baby Mylah but the fact of the matter is, if she were deported back to the Ukraine tomorrow she wouldn’t be off picking potatoes somewhere – she had a life in her other country.
Another situation is Andrei Castravet, who married Libby Potthast Castravet. At first Andrei did not want to work at the family business with her Dad, Chuck and practically turned down an open offer a couple of years ago. However now since getting his real estate license he has changed his tune and now wants to go work for Chuck and the rest of the family because he wants to be the breadwinner.
However instead of letting him show off his skills as a real estate agent and actually put his knowledge to work, the Potthasts just act like they’re mad because Andrei is acting “above his station” and doesn’t want to do handiwork for them.
They act like Andrei has nothing to bring to the table, but they’re not giving him the chance because they think he’s cutting into “their” money. Andrei needs to run far away from that family business, but I digress.
Finally, Julia Trubkina Gibb comes to mind. Both Brandon and her in-laws act like Julia should have fully expected to be treated as the hired help and to work on a farm all her life the moment that she got here and just be grateful she got that. Brandon doesn’t seem to think that she’s capable, or literate, and doesn’t seem to take her dreams of becoming a designer seriously, and you know she couldn’t tell Betty and Ron about it.
These fiancés and their families act like they want to help these people ‘build a better life’ but simultaneously get so mad when this new person in their lives dares to dream bigger than the box that they have set for them, the entitlement abounds and it’s cringeworthy. Maybe next season will be better, but I kind of doubt it. Stay tuned!!!
