They say it’s a man’s world but according to Meghan Markle’s it’s one that should see more women supporting women.
As a matter of fact, the Duchess of Sussex made a passionate speech during a pre-recorded message at the Global Citizen Vax Live concert about how women have been disproportionately impacted by the ongoing pandemic that has been Covid-19. Here’s what she has to say.
Meghan Markle Wants To See More Women Supporting Women
Meghan’s appearance was her first one since her bombshell of an interview with Oprah Winfrey back in March, in which she seemingly threw the entire royal family under the bus.
The event also saw President Joe Biden with his wife, First Lady Jill Biden, along with Vice President Kamala Harris and also featured performances from Jennifer Lopez, Eddie Vedder, Foo Fighters, J Balvin and H.E.R.
In her message, Meghan said: “The past year has been defined by communities coming together tirelessly and heroically to tackle Covid-19. We’ve gathered tonight because the road ahead is getting brighter, but it’s going to take every one of us to find our way forward.
As campaign chairs of Vax Live, my husband and I believe it’s critical that our recovery prioritizes the health, safety and success of everyone – and particularly women, who have been disproportionately affected by this pandemic.”
The pregnant actress added: “Women, and especially women of color, have seen a generation of economic gain wiped out. Since the pandemic began, nearly 5.5 million women have lost work in the US, and 47 million more women around the world are expected to slip into extreme poverty.”
Meghan is expected to give birth to her daughter sometime this summer. She and her husband Prince Harry are already parents to their 2-year-old son, Archie Harrison.
