Tiger Woods has opened up in his first interview since his horrific car crash in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. Speaking to Golf Digest, he detailed the rehabilitation he is undergoing after surviving the near-fatal accident over 3 months ago, saying the rehab is “more painful than anything I have ever experienced.”
While Tiger thought he was prepared for the rehab process because of past golfing injuries, he describes this rehab as “an entirely different animal.”
Inside Tiger Woods’ “Excruciating” Rehab After Surviving a High-Speed Crash
The major injuries Woods suffered to his right leg, including open fractures to his tibia and fibula and multiple shattered bones in his foot and ankle, required several surgeries, leaving the golfing legend with a metal stabilizing rod in the leg.
Woods spent several weeks in hospital and has since been undergoing treatment and rehab at his Florida home. It is too early to tell yet if Woods will ever be able to play golf professionally, or perhaps even recreationally as he is still learning to walk again!
“My physical therapy has been keeping me busy,” the 45-year old told Golf Digest. “I do my routines every day and am focused on my number one goal right now: walking on my own. Taking it one step at a time.”
Woods also acknowledged the “incredible” outpouring of concern and well-wishes he has received from fans worldwide.
“I have had so much support from people both inside and outside of golf which means so much to me and has helped tremendously.”
Investigators determined Woods was traveling at almost twice the legal speed limit, between 82 and 87 mph leading up to the crash. The car was still hurtling at 75 mph when it collided with a tree.
According to police, there was not enough evidence to charge Woods, who didn’t undergo sobriety testing. They say Woods showed no signs of impairment and believe he may have panicked behind the wheel and pressed down on the accelerator instead of the brake when began losing control of the vehicle .
