It seems Bill and Melinda Gates began working on the financial settlements well before their divorce was finalized or announced. Melinda became $1.8 Billion richer just hours just before the divorce papers were served.
It is said it was Melinda who officially served the papers and it has been revealed the two did not have a pre-nup, but did have signed a separation agreement ahead of the divorce filing.
The stock transfer of14 million shares of Canadian National Railway Co. made Melinda the sixth-biggest shareholder in Canada’s largest railway. Bill also signed over more than 2.9 million shares of AutoNation Inc.

As the world watches to see how the divorce proceedings play out and how the immense Gates wealth is divvied up, the early stock transfer indicates that though this will be one of the world most expensive divorces, it currently seems to be amicable.
This is good news for the philanthropic Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Though the name may change, it appears not much else will.
The Gateses will remain co-chairs and trustees of the foundation which employs 1,600 people and has given more than US$55-billion to health, hunger and education aid for developing countries and within the United States. The foundation also offers assistance to farmers in Africa and underprivileged students in the Los Angeles area.
The reason behind the divorce has also, so far, sounded quite cordial with thee billionaires’ joint statements reading “We no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in this next phase of our lives” and ‘irreconcilable differences’ were written on Melinda’s divorce filing.
A rumor did do the rounds that Zhe “Shelly” Wang, a translator who has worked for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation since March 2015, was responsible in pat for the split. This rumor has been hotly denied by Wang who claimed she has never had more than a professional relationship with Bill or Melinda.
