The Wonder Years spoilers reveal the classic television series starring Fred Savage (Kevin Arnold) is coming back to television. However, it’s going to be a bit different. Let’s take a look at what we love about the original, the new version’s promo, and when you can expect to see it on TV.

ABC ‘The Wonder Years’: Back in time

As a kid in the ‘80s, The Wonder Years was appointment TV. We still remember this show being one of the few times we got emotional at something on screen. Not surprising, as the original version dealt with some many emotional moments.

The thing that made the show work, we believe, was the universal nature of the material. Pretty much every kid dealt with embarrassing moment in school. Not to mention crushes and first heartbreaks.

And let’s not even get started on the authentic portrayals of the Arnold family dynamics. It also reached out to older audiences by giving them a glimpse back into their own childhoods and the music/events that shaped them.

We admit, when we first heard about the show, we were a bit skeptical. It’s hard to take something that was so well-done/loved and recapture that magic. Today’s release of a promo trailer gives us an idea of whether or not they’re on the right track.

ABC ‘The Wonder Years’: Coming soon

First, there are a couple of things in the show’s favor. One, Savage is a producer on the series and directed the first episode. Plus, original creator Neal Marlens is also a consultant on the show. So, we do have some original voices that should help keep things aligned with the spirit of the material.

Then, there’s the trailer. We were happy to see they kept “With a Little Help From My Friends” as the theme, and if it’s not the original singer, it’s definitely close. We also felt narrator Don Cheadle had a similar sound and tone to the original narrator, Daniel Stern.

As for the rest of the promo, it promises a focus on all the things that made the original what it was-first love, childhood activities, and family. In one clip, the narrator talks about the first time he felt seen by his father.

The show will focus on the Dean Williams (Elisha “EJ” Williams) and his family as he grows up in 1960’s Montgomery, Alabama. Another difference is, Dean only has one sibling, an older sister. In the original, Kevin had both an older brother and sister, so we’re interested in seeing how this changes the family vibe.

They also added a second friend for Dean, whereas the original focused on of Kevin’s friends as a main character. One thing that stays the same is Dean with have a crush—Keisa Clemmons (Milan Ray).

ABC ‘The Wonder Years’: When is it coming?

According to numerous sources, the show is scheduled to debut in the Fall. It will have the 8:30 PM timeslot on Wednesday. Interestingly enough, this article pointed out the series will be leading in to The Conners. Check out the article to see what that’s a nice touch.
