It wouldn’t be a royal funeral without the crazies out on the street, right? There’s a new report that says a topless woman was arrested while protesting outside Prince Philip’s funeral at Windsor Castle on Saturday. Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, died April 9 at age 99, the longest-serving consort in British history. Here’s what you need to know.
According to reports, officers were seen leading the woman away from Windsor Castle and St George’s Chapel, where the funeral of the former Duke of Edinburgh was taking place.
Topless Woman Arrested While Protesting Outside Of Prince Philip’s Funeral
Eyewitnesses say she ran onto the road shouting “save the planet” after the modest crowd began clapping following the silence. She then jumped onto a statue of Queen Victoria before police officers removed her from the scene on Castle Hill.
Images captured by Reuters showed authorities escorting the topless woman out of the roadway while witnesses looked on. This occurred at the same time that several well wishers showed up and observed the service from afar while only 30 close family members and friends were actually invited to the funeral to keep in line with COVID-19 restrictions.
So far Buckingham Palace has not made any comments about the arrest.
The ceremony started in St. George’s Chapel in the grounds of Windsor Castle at 3:00 p.m. and only consisted of 30 British Royal Family members. Reports say that Prince Philip was intimately involved in its planning, selecting the music and ensuring the ceremony reflects his military affiliations and personal interests.
At one point, Queen Elizabeth was seen in the back of her black Bentley on her way out of the service calmly wiping away a tear after saying goodbye to her husband of 73 years.
