Family members of Grammy-nominated rapper and actor DMX, real name Earl Simmons, have confirmed that he has died Friday, April 9 following his hospitalization from a “catastrophic cardiac arrest,” on April 2.
“We are deeply saddened to announce today that our loved one, DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, passed away at 50 years old at White Plains Hospital with his family by his side after being placed on life support for the past few days,” wrote the in their statement on Twitter.

“Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end. He loved his family with all of his heart and we cherish the times we spent with him. Earl’s music inspired countless fans across the world and his iconic legacy will live on forever.
We appreciate all of the love and support during this incredibly difficult time. Please respect our privacy as we grieve the loss of our brother, father, uncle and the man the world knew as DMX. We will share information about his memorial service once details are finalized.”
White Plains Hospital where DMX spent his final days also released a brief statement, extending their deepest condolences to his family friends and legions of fans.
They assures those who loved and prayed for the rapper that he passed away peacefully with family present.
DMX was rushed to The White Plains hospital and admitted to the intensive care unit in grave condition last Friday after suffering a heart attack at his home.
The musician and actor had been open about his struggles with drug use and TMZ had reported the heart attack was a result of a drug overdose.
This claim was not confirmed. A Covid-19 vaccine was also to blame, with claims he received the vaccine shortly before the cardiac arrest. This is also an unsubstantiated report.
DMX dominated the late 90s and early 2000’s with his first studio album, It’s Dark and Hell is Hot debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.
He released seven albums in total and was nominated for three Grammy Awards. He also had roles in at least 11 movies.
Earl Simmons will be mourned by his 15 children and countless fans.
