And so it begins. There’s a new report that says Kanye West has finally responded to Kim Kardashian’s divorce petition. He apparently filed his report just last week and one month after Kim filed her initial paperwork. Here’s what you need to know.
According to ET Online, Kanye’s response asks for joint legal and physical custody of their kids, and asks to terminate the court’s ability to award spousal support and attorney’s fees to either party. The ex-couple have four children together: North, 7, Saint, 5, Chicago, 3, and Psalm, 1.

Apparently, this move was a long time coming as both Kim and Kanye have made peace with the fact that their marriage is all but dead. While there were some reports indicating that Kanye did want to give their marriage another chance, Kim had checked out a long time ago. In fact, she knew she had to do something about the state of her marriage when Kanye West humiliated her and her family in his failed bid for the White House last summer.
“Kim filing for divorce from Kanye is just a formal part of the process,” a source told ET of the split. “The couple has been done for a while and have been amicable for a while. At the end of the day, Kanye and Kim love each other immensely but knew it was time to call it quits. Their children are their number one priority and no matter what will maintain a positive relationship for them.”
With that said, Kim and Kanye’s relationship from this point forward will only focus on what’s best for their children.
“As a couple it seems as the relationship has run its course,” the source said. “The couple has tried to work on their relationship for a while but find it hard to get on the same page. They haven’t lived together for some time and have been focused on their separate businesses and work while keeping their children’s happiness at the forefront.”
