Disney Plus has raised it’s price by one dollar to a now $8-a-month subscription. The price hikes, announced in December, will begin showing up for existing subscribers in their first bill and needless to say, there aren’t a lot of people who are happy about it. Here’s what you need to know.

As of press time, Disney Plus is priced at $7.99 per month, up a dollar from the current $6.99, or $79.99 per year, compared with $69.99 for the annual plan previously. It’s the first time the company is increasing rates for U.S. customers since Disney Plus debuted in November 2019.

In addition, the three-way bundle that includes Disney Plus, Hulu with ads and ESPN Plus (available only in the U.S.) is increasing to $13.99 per month, also up a dollar.

Of course, it didn’t take very long for both Disney Plus critics and fans alike to weigh in on the matter. Many of them took to social media to express their dismay over this decision, by writing, “Honestly they should be cutting prices. They charge $30 to watch new releases, and have the absolute worst writing/shows of any streaming network outside CBS all access (even the Mandalorian, while ok, is a bit over-rated),” along with, “Disney+ continues to be a network for children, unfortunately their adult offerings are exceptionally slim. They don’t have anything close to the long-term viability of Netflix. Disney had to gut their home video profits to get as far as they did. I do like Marvel, but only time will tell if their derivative offerings end up saving their company.”

Another person said rather bluntly, “Now we know what the plus is for.”

It’s been noted that Disney Plus has signed up more than 100 million subscribers, far outracing all of their competitors, including Netflix.
