Demi Lovato says that the only reason why she got engaged to Max Ehrich is because she wanted to show the world that she was “okay” when she really wasn’t. The chart topper is now opening up about the ill-fated engagement to the former soap opera star. Here’s what she has to say.
In a new interview with Glamour Magazine, Demi says that one of the reasons why she rushed her engagement to Max is because she wanted to prove to the world that she was finally on the right track in her life after nearly dying of a drug overdose in 2018.
Yet, Demi says that couldn’t be any further from the truth, because she was definitely “not okay.”

“I really had myself fooled, because it was the safe and expected thing,” she told the magazine. “Obviously I cared deeply about the person, but there was something inside of me that was like, ‘I have to prove to the world that I’m okay.’ Now that I’m not engaged or married and I’m okay, I’m like, ‘Wow. Isn’t that so much more empowering?’ It’s not this false sense of security.”
Demi added that her massive engagement ring, which was reportedly worth about $1 million, “made it really real.”
“The second it was off, I was like, ‘You know what? I’m good. I don’t need that,’” the 28 year old continued. “I just don’t need an object on my finger to make me feel like I’ve got my shit together. It looks like stability, but it doesn’t mean that it is.”
Back in September, it was reported that Max was completely blindsided by their break up.
“He’s still just trying to figure out what happened with Demi,” a source told Us Weekly at the time.
“Max just went through a major breakup, he is heartbroken,” the tipster added. “He’s not responding to friends again and he is in a fragile state. The posts he is making are not painting a picture of who Max really is.”
