Cara Delevingne made some shocking revelations over how she was suicidal and homophobic before going public over her pansexuality.Â
Cara Delevingne Was Suicidal And Homophobic Prior To Coming Out As A Pansexual
In an interview on the Goop podcast, Cara stated how her identity crisis nearly drove her to the edge. She said: “I do correlate the massive depression and the suicidal moments of my life [my sexuality] because I was so ashamed of ever being that. But, actually, that was the part of me that I love so much and accept.” But it was her upbringing that made things especially difficult. She stated how her conservative family put her in a very awkward position.
During her youth, she attended Francis Holland School, which is an independent girls’ school. Naturally, the expectations from there led to her feeling isolated. Cara has previously admitted that her depression there, led her to hit her head against trees, as she never fitted in. Those issues compounded an already burgeoning problem.
She added:Â “I grew up in an old-fashioned household. I didn’t know anyone who was gay. I didn’t know that was a thing and actually, I think growing up. I wasn’t knowledgeable of the fact I was homophobic.” This started to impact her modelling career, which should come as no surprise. Models are expected to conform to a very high standard, and given Cara was unsure over her own identity, it started to catch up with her.
That is why she has decided to take things as they come. She continued: “I was so unhappy, and I wasn’t following my truth, especially in terms of being a model. That whole thing of having to fit into the box — I’m an androgynous person. I love being a woman and dressing up and doing all that, but I also love being a rough and tumble ‘man.’ I feel so much more comfortable in the fluidity of what it is to be just a human and to be an animal, almost, because that’s what we are. To trust in your own instincts.”
Cara has come on leaps and bounds since her early troubles. It is good to see her being so happy with herself, and long may that continue.
