Here’s the question of the ages. Everyone remembers the most memorable cancellation of 2020, when infamous youtuber Shane Dawson got literally cancelled off the internet so badly that he had to leave.
All because of his past racisted videos and the particularly disgusting one where he sexualized a then young (we’re talking minor) Willow Smith and pretended to be pleasuring himself to a poster of her music video “Whip my Hair”, outraging her Mom, Jada Pinkett Smith so much that she actually took to calling him out over twitter over it.
Youtube – So, is Shane Dawson even relevant anymore?
Technically, yes she didn’t say anything at the time that it happened and Willow herself has not said one word about the incident, but the thing is, it existed and his fanbase which was pretty much okay with anything he did circa 2009-2010 got woke during this past decade and realized just what they had been laughing at all those years ago.
Not only did Willow’s Mama not like it, but a ton of his fans didn’t like it either, and considering the racial tension that happened in the country over the summer of 2020 that just didn’t help things at all, so Shane didn’t just get cancelled, he crashed and burned and honestly, people are still cancelling him. His name is literal mud.
That would have been one thing, but he also got cancelled for his participation in the cancellation of James Charles last year, by Tati Westbrook, whom we also thought was coming back but who has since high-tailed it to parts unknown. (Probably due to a largely unrelated legal battle to do with her beauty brand that happened in the past year.) All in all, 2020 just was not a good year to be Shane Dawson. However, every 3 weeks or so, you’ll hear rumors that Shane Dawson is coming back.
And then nothing.
Well, not nothing, he just hasn’t been making videos. No documentaries, no cameos in other people’s videos, nothing on any of his channels (even though he promised he was going to delve into the makeup world with the ShaneGlossin channel however that never exactly happened.)
The only thing that we hear from Shane nowadays is that he’ll pop up every now and again on his instagram, either in a post or on a live (though those have been few and far between) and lately he’s been releasing merch.
Some people say that this is to gauge whether or not he still has followers or not and there’s some stans out there who’ll buy his merch and support him no matter what, but if he’s not creating content then is the merch still relevant? Is that a harsh question? Yes. Is it still valid though?
Yes. It’d be interesting at this point to see what he does in regards to content because it’s obvious he can’t ever go back to being Shane Dawson, at least not at the level he used to be, but at this point very few people are asking for him back. Has the internet moved on? Stay tuned!!!
