Tom Holland has opened up about some of his Hollywood failures, with a particular emphasis on the auditions that have gone wrong.

During an interview with Backstage, the Spiderman actor revealed one particular audition that stuck in the memory: “I’ve read the wrong lines at the wrong audition before. I remember my audition for Star Wars; I was like four or five auditions in. I remember doing this scene with this lady, bless her, and she was just a drone.”
“I was doing all of this, like, ‘We gotta get back to the ship!’ And she was going, ‘Bleep, bloop bloop, bleep bloop. I just couldn’t stop laughing. I found it so funny. I felt really bad because she was trying really hard to be a convincing android or drone or whatever they’re called. Yeah, I obviously didn’t get the part. That wasn’t my best moment.”
The actor is no stranger to rejection given that he has lost the lead to other actors on major films, some of which include Star Wars and November Criminals. But rather than that putting a dampener on him and his acting career, Tom has praised the role of his wider family in helping him negotiate rejection. One member, in particular, has been central to this, his father. He continued:
“My dad sat me down, and we spoke about dealing with rejection. He’s had to deal with rejection his entire life in his career, and he was really kind and said, ‘Son, that’s part of success. If you won every single time, winning would become losing. It’s like, if I can shoot 4-under in golf every single day, that would become really boring. You need to lose so that the win feels like a win.”
Aside from missing out on some big roles, which any actor will be familiar with, does Tom have any regrets? Well, not in the slightest and who could blame him. After all, his performance as Peter Parker and Spiderman has won major praise all over the world. And he signed off the interview confirming as much: “[I’ve] achieved everything I could possibly want to achieve.”
