There are new reports that say rapper Nicki Minaj’s father, Robert Maraj, died in a hit and run, according to police. Here’s what you need to know.
Reports say Robert Maraj was walking in Mineola, Long Island, on Friday at 6:15 p.m. when he was “was struck by a northbound, undescribed, vehicle that left the scene of the accident,” the Nassau County Police Department said in a statement.

He was initially listed in critical condition at a local hospital but died from his injuries at some point over the weekend. Homicide detectives are now investigating the crash and asking anyone who saw the collision at the intersection of Roslyn Road and Raff Avenue to come forward.
Nicki Minaj, whose real name is Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty, was born in Trinidad before being raised in the New York City borough of Queens. The death of her father comes just four months after she welcomed her first child with husband Kenneth Petty.
Just last month, the rapper, 38, shared new photos of her 3-month-old son. While she hasn’t revealed the name of her son just yet, she did reveal his sweet nickname: Papa Bear.
“#PapaBear thank you so very much for choosing me to be your mama,” Nicki wrote in an Instagram post.
