Eddie Murphy hosting an awards show is something the world could definitely use right now, but unfortunately it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen any time soon.

Well, at least not this year. The Hollywood actor says that he would love to host the Oscars again, but doesn’t think the timing is right for him right now. Here’s what he has to say.

With Eddie Murphy as the host of the Oscars, you know that it would be a damn good show from start to finish. In an exclusive clip from the Tamron Hall show, which will air on Thursday, the comedian talked about the possibility.

“Oh, maybe — not this year — but maybe one day, yeah,” Murphy says. “One day, who knows? I would love … you know, it’s an honor to do that and I would love to do it one day.”

Eddie Murphy explained that the reason why he wouldn’t do the Oscars this year – which is scheduled for April – is because he is taking the coronavirus lockdown very seriously.

While there are some people who have managed to travel and move around, Eddie says that he’s barely left his house in the last year and intends on staying there until things finally go back to normal – whenever that will be.

“Oh, I can’t do anything in April. I literally haven’t left my yard since March because of this lockdown, the pandemic stuff,” he says of taking safety precautions. “I’m real serious with it, I haven’t done anything.”

“When the pandemic is over and the world looks like it’s getting back to normal, then we can get back to doing normal things,” he adds.

Meanwhile, the Oscars this year won’t look like awards shows from the past as the ceremony will be live from multiple locations.

“In this unique year that has asked so much of so many, the Academy is determined to present an Oscars like none other, while prioritizing the public health and safety of all those who will participate,” an Academy spokesperson told ET.
