‘Jeopardy!’ spoilers have found that fans are starting to get used to seeing a different host on their screens.
Two very big shoes were left to be filled in the wake of long time host, Alex Trebek’s November passing.
Consulting producer, Ken Jennings, who was also crowned as Jeopardy’s Greatest Contestant of All Time, has been doing a terrific job on the other side of the podium. This is despite the negative twitterstorm that was the prelude to his guest host tenure.
Each day this week Jennings has started his episodes with a mini tribute to Trebek’s charisma, playfulness and generous nature. Jennings teared up as he explained how Trebek always ensured the contestants were the stars of the show.
‘Jeopardy!’ Spoilers: New Guest Hosts Announced
However, Jeopardy! viewers shouldn’t get too used to seeing Jennings pose the answers on their screen. Although he has taped at least 30 episode, 5 more guest hosts were announced today.
Executive Producer Mike Richards, who addressed the audience after Trebek’s final episode aired will take over immediately following Jenning’s time in the role. Succeeding Richards will be Jeopardy’s first ever female host- Katie Couric: journalist, author, presenter and producer.
The final three names announced are Aaron Rodgers; NFL quarterback and a former Celebrity Jeopardy! champion, Bill Whitaker; journalist and correspondent for 60 Minutes and finally neuroscientist and actress/producer Mayim Bialik.
Says Richards of the line up, “Alex was a legend, revered by us all. I want to thank our guest hosts, who will not only help all of us celebrate his great legacy, but also bring their own touch to the show.”
It is definitely a varied group and it will be interesting to see how their differing styles will sit with the diehard audience. Further guest hosts are said to be announced later in the season.
No word yet as to whether actor and children’s host LeVar Burton has been asked to join the prestigious group. Over ninety thousand Jeopardy! fans signed a petition shortly after Trebek’s passing from pancreatic cancer, in favor of Burton taking over the hosting role permanently.
A two week guest run would be a great way to see if Burton’s style suits the show and the viewers…hint, hint! Watch Jeopardy! weeknights on NBC at 7pm ET.
