Vince Vaughn Talks Almost Getting Canceled After Shaking Hands With Donald Trump Earlier This Year

Vince Vaughn knows a thing or two about being canceled, seeing how the internet wanted to almost do that to him earlier this year when he was seen in a short video clip shaking hands with President Donald Trump during the 2020 College Football Playoff national championship game earlier this year. Here’s what he has to say.

The 50-year-old Hollywood actor, who is neither a Republican nor a Democrat but a self-proclaimed libertarian, was seen talking with both President Trump and his wife, First Lady Melania Trump during the game.

Unfortunately, he says that the incident was far overblown by critics on the internet who called for the actor to be “canceled” simply because he was being cordial with the President and First Lady of the United States.

Vaughn told the Los Angeles Times in an interview, “In my career I’ve met a lot of politicians who I’ve always been cordial to; I’ve met Nancy Pelosi and was cordial to her as well. It was the only time I’ve ever met him. We said hello. He was very personable. I didn’t get into policies.”

Vaughan added that he was left very well aware of all his critics who called for him to be canceled, which he believes is a practice that has become all too common these days.

“I think people are more charged than ever about these things,” he said. “But I don’t think most people take that stuff as seriously as the small percentage that’s making noise about it.”

Vaughan also makes a point to say that he’s never endorsed or supported a presidential candidate in his life, except for one.

“The only candidate I ever supported is [former Libertarian presidential nominee] Ron Paul. … I don’t have a party that I support and endorse,” Vaughn declared. “In fact, for me sometimes it’s difficult to find a candidate that you feel is philosophically consistent and not just going along with whoever is funding their particular party.”
