British Royal Family News suggests that Queen Elizabeth bringing Meghan Markle along for her first royal engagement after her wedding to Prince Harry in 2018 might have been one huge mistake.
This was when Meghan and the Queen took the royal train to Cheshire, where they opened the Mersey Gateway Bridge in Runcorn, visited Chester’s Storyhouse theatre and had lunch at the Chester Town Hall with civic dignitaries. Here’s what you need to know.
Pod Save the Queen hosts Ann Gripper and Daily Mail royal editor Russell Myers discussed the situation, as they believe that Meghan Markle’s first real taste of royal life might have left a sour taste in her mouth. That’s because she was always more interested in making a change on the global level rather than on the community one.
British Royal Family News: Meghan Markle’s First Public Engagement With Queen Elizabeth Deemed A Mistake
Russell Myers put it this way, “There were some comments about whether people in the Palace thought they had made a mistake letting Meghan go on her first engagement with the Queen to Chester. And I was there at the time ‒ there were loads of crowds, great day, big privilege for her to step out with the Queen so soon after she got married. But the issue was they were saying, well did Meghan then think, ‘I don’t fancy this, going up to a northern town on a train overnight and I really want to be making speeches at the UN and change the way that girls’ education is sought after in Africa.’”
Ann Gripper added, “And maybe she also thought ‘this is not for me’, and it all happened very, very quickly didn’t it? So obviously there have been massive mistakes on both sides and I’m sure that both sides feel a sense of regret at certain stages.”
However, many royal critics would agree that bringing Meghan Markle along for her royal engagement allowed Queen Elizabeth to prove to the world that she approved her grandson’s new wife and that she wanted to form a new friendship with her, too.
Needless to say, things didn’t work out the way that the Queen had hoped as less than two years later, both Prince Harry and Meghan Markle pulled the plug on their working relationship with the royal family and ultimately left for themselves in Los Angeles.
