George Clooney is the kind of friend that everyone wants to have. The handsome Hollywood actor recently admitted that he gifted $1 million dollars to 14 of his closest friends, simply because he felt like doing so. Here’s what you need to know.
In an interview with GQ Magazine, George was having one helluva good day when he gave suitcases packed with $1 million to each of his 14 closest pals. No word on how the 15th friend felt that day.
George told the publication, “I just thought basically if I get hit by a bus, they’re all in the will. So why the f–-k am I waiting to get hit by a bus?”
George Clooney Once Gifted His Friends $1 Million Each
George’s act of generosity happened back in 2013. He said that he was able to get a location in downtown Los Angeles and managed to carry 14 high-end luggage bags in a beat up van that said ‘Florist’ on the side.
“I packed in a million bucks, cash, which isn’t as much as you think it is, weight-wise, into these Tumi bags,” Clooney recalled.
The next day George Clooney invited his buds for the big reveal. “I just held up a map and I just pointed to all the places I got to go in the world and all the things I’ve gotten to see because of them. And I said, ‘How do you repay people like that?’ ”
“And I said, ‘Oh, well: How about a million bucks?’”
George said that he wasn’t expected to have a family at the time and had just gotten a hefty payday from his movie, Gravity.
“I was a single guy. All of us were aging. I was 52 or something. And most of my friends are older than me,” he said. “And I thought, what I do have are these guys . . . I’ve slept on their couches when I was broke. They loaned me money when I was broke. They helped me when I needed help over the years . . . And I thought, you know, without them I don’t have any of this.”
