It’s been reported that Conan the Barbarian is getting a series on Netflix! This is exciting news for fans of the original films and hoping that it’s taken seriously. ‘Conan the Barbarian’ has such deep and rich lore that often gets ignored on-screen and this could be an opportunity to truly explore all the magic and barbarian goodness!
With Netflix acing shows like ‘The Witcher’, this gives up some hope. According to a Deadline report,
“Deadline says Netflix reached a deal with Fredrik Malmberg, who owns companies that control both Conan Properties International and the producing studio, Pathfinder Media. Netflix gets an exclusive option to acquire and adapt rights to Conan’s literary form. The adaptations can be either live-action or animated.”
Netflix Is Creating A ‘Conan The Barbarian’ Series – Hopefully, It’s Done Right!
Currently, the search is underway for a writer/showrunner to write the Conan adaption. Malmberg and Wheeler will serve as executive producers on the potential series through their Pathfinder Media. This will surely lead to many fan castings and excitement for the new series.
The character is most famously portrayed by Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1982’s ‘Conan the Barbarian’ along with the sequels. This was one of his earliest roles and catapulted him to superstardom.
In 2011, the film was rebooted with now Aquaman, Jason Momoa, though it didn’t perform very well. While the film itself isn’t terrible, it didn’t feel like a “Conan” film.
However, with all this excitement and Netflix at the reigns, we can expect something pretty good I believe. Who would you cast as Conan in 2020?
