As we all know, a lot of us have not been able to get out to movie theaters in a long time due to COVID and with no end in sight that makes things really hard on anybody in the film industry who is just trying to make a living.
There are still films that were produced pre-pandemic that are yet to have been released simply because right now there isn’t much of a market for big films. Can’t go out to the big summer blockbuster if you’re trying to stay away from COVID.
DC in talks to release Wonder Woman 1984 straight to streaming
For instance DC has a ton of films that were backlogged for release in 2021 simply because of the pandemic and for the longest time it looked like Wonder Woman 1984 was going to go the same way.
But then Disney made the bold move of releasing Mulan on its streaming platform, Disney+ and in spite of all the controversy surrounding that particular film, the move emboldened Warner Brothers to do the same thing and make plans to release Wonder Woman 1984 on streaming.
No news of where the film will premiere yet but that is definitely where they’re headed as far as release goes. There is also no news of an actual release date as of yet either. Allegedly it was supposed to premiere in June 2020 but COVID prevented all if that because we were still on lockdown during that time and movie theaters had not opened back up. So there went that idea.
Now it looks like WB is back to the old drawing board and reconsidering its full theater run for Wonder Woman 1984. It was originally supposed to be full theater run blockbuster but people are having to adapt to this new world that we’re living in.
It can still be a blockbuster but due to the type of streaming that WB uses they might have to work twice as hard to actually turn a profit at releasing it. Honestly, I think that the money is there, but Warner Brothers may just have to work a little bit harder at finding a way to turn on the cash facuet as it were. When we find out a release date we’ll let you know. Stay tuned!
