Reports doing the rounds have suggested that Dana White is expected to make a huge announcement very soon. It has been rumoured that the announcement could have something to do with the Zuffa Boxing promotion that he teased in 2017. Those plans were cancelled shortly after Conor McGregor lost on his boxing debut against Floyd Mayweather.
But, White has recently stated that his next announcement will have something to do with the world of boxing. But, could this mean that a number of the top stars in the world of UFC will be trading the octagon for the boxing ring?
UFC News: McGregor To Return To Boxing?
White also teased recently that there will be a big announcement coming soon regarding an update on what is next for McGregor. The Irishman has already stepped foot in a boxing ring previously, but he was beaten in the money-spinning bout by Mayweather. However, if White is looking for a huge name that will make this venture an immediate success, then he would be hard pressed to do anything other than get McGregor involved.
The Irishman has already indicated that he is now retired from all forms of combat, but has teased regularly over the last couple of months that a fight against Manny Pacquiao may interest him. McGregor has retired from MMA previously before returning, so his retirement should be taken with a pinch of salt as the Irishman will return if he is offered enough money to do so.
UFC News: Other Stars That Could Swap MMA For Boxing
McGregor isn’t the only fighter that has shown an interest in boxing throughout his MMA career. One of the other biggest names to do so is Jorge Masvidal, who recently called out Canelo Alvarez. That could be a huge first fight for White, as Alvarez is one of the best pound-for-pound boxers on the planet. His professional career has seen him lose just once in 56 professional fights.
Masvidal is a talented boxer, and is seen by many as the best natural boxer in the world of MMA. He already has a professional boxing record, as he won his only fight against Joseph Benjamin. Other UFC stars that could be interested in a boxing bout could include Nate Diaz, Francis Ngannou and Khabib Nurmagomedov.
