TLC ’90 Day FiancĂ©: The Other Way’ spoilers finds that in a live recently on IG, Deavan Clegg’s Mom, Elicia Clegg, revealed an interesting detail about Taeyang Scuti Lee’s future. He apparently has dual citizenship in both the United States and South Korea.
The United States only requires volunteer service as of right now with the US military. However, South Korea is a much smaller country and they can’t afford to just have volunteer military service. The budget for their military is very low, and every able bodied man is required to serve at least 2 years active military service in South Korea.
The only way that Taeyang could avoid military service is if he gave up his dual citizenship but Elicia thought that would be really sad because then he couldn’t go and visit his family.
TLC ’90 Day FiancĂ©: The Other Way’ Spoilers – Will Taeyang have to serve in the Korean military?
However, she did go on to say that this will definitely be a decision that Taeyang will have to make once he grows up. So, in actuality, time will tell whether or not he will keep his Korean citizenship or not. We have not heard whether or not if Jihoon Lee ever served in the military in Korea.
I am assuming he did since we don’t know anything about his medical history and it can be assumed aside from liking to take a bunch of naps that he’s physically able-bodied. It was assumed, at least by me, that he served in the military long before he met Deavan and the topic just never came up.
From what Elicia said the South Korean military has deplorable conditions, but as someone who has taught Korean students before, I must say that I never heard that from any of them. I did hear of some of the younger members who thought that they thought that serving should be optional, but in all honesty they didn’t raise too much of a fuss.
However, with someone as delicate as Jihoon’s constitution seems to be, I could definitely see where he would hate serving in the military. I mean, you can’t exactly take naps when one is expected to man a post. She said that serving in the Korean military is way different than serving in the US Military, and honestly that is to be expected. Different country, different rules.
Even though Taeyang is too young to remember it, it would seem that right now, he prefers American food to Korean food. She said Drascilla Clegg and her other daughter really liked the food over there but Taeyang wasn’t sold on it.
Some might argue that this is a foreshadowing of the Taeyang’s future, but we can’t really say that for sure. maybe he will grow up to really appreciate Korean food and culture and want to follow in his fellow countrymen’s footsteps and want to serve in the military.
That is, unless he somehow can’t, and that could be a possibility, considering Deavan has a brain condition that makes it hard for her to be on birth control.
I’m not sure if this particular brain condition is hereditary or not, Elicia never said in the live, but that is why Deavan cannot be on hormonal birth control. She has to depend on the guy to use birth control and that is probably why she ended up with Taeyang in the first place, after all, condoms are only so effective and there’s always the possibility of a faulty one or one breaking.
I’m not actually sure what the story behind Taeyang’s conception is, but I’m willing to bet one of those two things. Needless to say upon finding out that her little boy might have to serve in the military, Deavan freaked out and had an emotional meltdown over that.
With military service, even in non-active duty, there’s always the possibility of not coming back alive, training maneuvers don’t always go as planned and sometimes military are expected to help out during natural disasters. Either way, Taeyang’s future decisions about his country will be a long term thing, one that we’re going to have to keep an eye on. Stay tuned!!!
