This just goes to show that social media truly is nothing more than smoke and mirrors. Reality television star Kristen Cavallari recently admitted that she thought about divorcing her husband, NFL star Jay Cutler, every day for nearly two years, but simply couldn’t pull the plug until the time was right. Kristen says this, despite the fact that many of her social media accounts portrayed an image of the two in a happy marriage and a happy family life together behind closed doors. Here’s what she has to say.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight in a new interview, the blonde beauty said that while she’s had some good days and some bad, she and Jay are putting their children first while trying to navigate their new lives as co-parents.

“That’s my only priority at the moment, and they’re handling it well,” the Uncommon James founder said. “I’m just trying to stay positive and focus on all of the positive things. But I have sad days, without a doubt.”

Kristen also admitted that making her decision to divorce Jay was something she thought about for a very long time. “It was not an easy decision, obviously. It was something that I truly thought about every single day for over two years.”

“It was the hardest decision that I have ever made,” Cavallari added. “But I don’t know, my mom [Judith Spies Eifrig] used to say, ‘You’ll know when it’s time.’ I feel like that was true. I knew. And that’s that.”

Kristen also said that age might have played a factor and the fact that the two of them started their relationship while she was still a very young and fresh reality television star.

“It just didn’t work. I met Jay when I was 23. I was a kid, but we tried,” Cavallari said. “We tried everything, and Jay and I had so much love for each other. No one could ever take that away from us. But at the end of the day, we weren’t happy.” She added: “I think life is too short.”
